History

Empowering women in the Accounting and Financial Professions since 1938!

The American Society of Women Accountants was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in fields of accounting and finance.  The first chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Currently, there are over 100 chapters across the United States, with approximately 6000 members.   Members include partners in national, regional, and local CPA frirms, financial officers, controllers, academicians, financial analysts and data processing consultants, recent colleage graduates and women returning to the work force. 

The Des Moines Chapter was founded in 1988 and currently has 50 members.
